Through undergraduate research travel awards, the Office of Undergraduate Research & Scholarship (OURS) supports student travel to a variety of professional activities where they actively disseminate the new knowledge they created at Radford University; applications need to be submitted here. Please submit requests at least 30 days before the conference starts, although requests can be inititated as soon as applying to the conference or event.
We are happy to meet with any individual before or after applying to discuss questions associated with travel requests. Email ours@radford.edu to schedule a meeting time!
When attending a conference (virtual or in-person): have your resume available as a paper copy or links to your LinkedIn profile/resume/eportfolio, official student business cards (which can be purchased through printing services), and sign up in advance for professional development programs for students.
When traveling out of the area and applying for funding, applicants will be asked details such as, departure and return dates, hotel reservation information, and names of all travelers (faculty and students) seeking funding from Radford University. In the case that not all of this information is known it is still encouraged that students apply and the details will be confirmed in face to face meetings with OURS representatives. Airline tickets are to be purchased according to Radford University policy and contracts, and not before travel has been fully approved.
We only fund undergraduate students who are presenting work and can fund up to $750 per student and $1500 per project. All additional costs will need to be paid out of pocket or through another funding source. If OURS is renting a vehicle to a conference it is expected that all students will use the vehicle provided or pay for alternative transportation from their personal finances.
