Earth Week 2025

The Radford University Office of Sustainability is hosting several events in celebration of Earth Week from Monday to Friday, April 21-25. View the schedule below for more information about each event.

Goodwill Move Out
Between Monday and Thursday, May 5-8 donate any items from your dorm or apartment instead of throwing them out. Drop-off locations include: 

  • Lot F – Muse, Tyler, Madison
  • Lot DD – Moffett, Bolling, Pocahontas, Ingles, Draper, Washington
  • Bonnie Plaza – Peery, Floyd, Trinkle, Stuart

Monday, April 21

Alternative Transportation
11:45 a.m. to 3 p.m., Bonnie Plaza, Radford Transit, NRV Regional Commission, Hund’s Bike Shop Fix-It Workshop.

Hurricane Helene: Mapping the Destruction of the 1,000-Year Storm
Noon to 1 p.m., Bonnie Auditorium

  • Brandon Saddler will present pictures and drone footage of the historic flood damage caused by Hurricane Helene in 2024.
  • Wayne Hebb will present information on the university’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System. (MS4), as regulated by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
  • Sara O’Brien will present on the living laboratory opportunity provided by the storm damage, including her Endocrinology Lab’s research on displaced crawfish.

“King Coal”
3 p.m. and 5 p.m., Radford University Planetarium
A lyrical tapestry of a place and people, “King Coal” meditates on the complex history and future of the coal industry, the communities it has shaped and the myths it has created. Oscar-nominated filmmaker Elaine McMillion Sheldon reshapes the boundaries of documentary filmmaking in a spectacularly beautiful and deeply moving immersion into Central Appalachia, where coal is not just a resource but a way of life.
