What is Model United Nations?
Model United Nations is devoted to the simulation of international politics. While
United Nations simulations are still the main focus of activities, today simulations
are held of historical events (World War II and the Roman Empire), fictional scenarios
(Star Wars and Harry Potter), and current politics (the US Supreme Court and the Chinese
Communist Party). You can be a diplomat, a terrorist, a prime minister, or a Roman
emperor if just for the weekend.
Through Model UN, students can develop their political and diplomatic skills, show
leadership, engage in negotiation, learn to write resolutions, improve their public
speaking, and make friends around the United States and the world.
What will Model United Nations do?
Students in Model United Nations will meet regularly and learn the basics of simulating
international affairs. Then, they will plan a trip to a Model United Nations conference.
We would hope to attend two-to-three simulations per year when the club is up and
going. Even hosting a conference for local high school students might be a possibility
in the future.
