On-Campus Testing

In this section, you’ll find the important information you need to know about Educational Testing Center (ETC) and our policies for exams.

On-campus testing is held at the Educational Testing Center (ETC), which is a 32-station computer lab. The ETC proctors tests by appointment only. Two requirements must be met for students to take an exam at the ETC:

  1. Instructors must submit a proctoring request through RegisterBlast and notify students if they are required to take an exam at the ETC (see below for instructions).
  2.  Students must schedule their appointment at least 24 hours in advance through RegisterBlast (see below for instructions).

Note: Students will not be able to schedule an appointment prior to instructors submitting their request. It is imperative that requests are submitted as early as possible to allow time for students to adequately schedule their appointment within the 24-hour frame requirement. ETC currently recommends that instructors submit requests at least 48 hours in advance. The earlier requests are submitted and approved, the sooner students can book their seat.

Additional ways for students to schedule an appointment: The ETC will need to know your first name, last name, RU email address, phone number, and the exam that you need to take. You may email (ruc-etc@radford.edu), call (540-831-1729), or stop by (Room 508).

Note: Students must schedule an exam 24 hours in advance. Walk-ins are limited. The ETC will accommodate as much as possible, but instructors will be notified of students who excessively walk in for testing without a scheduled appointment.

Testing Center Guidelines

  • Check In:
    • Students must show picture IDs each time they test. A driver’s license or RU OneCard is an acceptable form of verification.
    • Students must know their RU OneCampus log in username and password to access the computer
    • Students must know their user and password for any website they will need to access their examination. The ETC does not have access to look up student’s personal log in information.
    • Students will leave any personal belongings in Room 508 before entering the testing lab. There is a dedicated area available for students to store their items.
    • No electronic devices, cell phones, smart watches, microphones, cameras, or any other devices are allowed in the testing center.
    • Food, drink, or any form of bottled water is not permitted to enter the testing lab.
    • Only specified supplies and materials from instructors are allowed in the testing lab. There must be prior approval from instructors communicated to the ETC if additional supplies and materials are allowed in the testing lab.
    • Students arriving 15 minutes or more after the testing appointment time risk needing to reschedule the appointment.
  • During the exam:
    • Tests are monitored using Faronics software. Tampering with the operation of the computer is prohibited, and the instructor will be notified.
    • Tests can be set up using Lockdown Browser that is enabled by the instructor.
    • Lockdown Browser will prevent students from accessing other websites or
      applications; students will be unable to exit their tests until all questions are
      completed and have been submitted for grading.
    • Students using Respondus Monitor will be recorded during testing to ensure
      academic integrity.
    • Respondus Monitor is a software program that records students' video and audio during online exams using a webcam. If any suspicious activity is detected, it is flagged for instructor review.
    • Any questions related to test content, grading, and deadlines should be directed to the instructor of the course.
    • Conversing with others is prohibited during testing.
    • The testing center closes promptly at 5:00pm, and all exams must be submitted at that time.
    • Removing or attempting to remove exams, questions, scratch paper, responses, and/or notes in any format will be reported to the instructor.
  • Check out:
    • After an online exam has been submitted, students will need to sign out of the computer.
    • Students will notify the proctor of their exam completion.
    • Students must return any exam materials requested by the instructor to the proctor.
  • Exam Drop Off & Returns:
    • Instructors can drop paper tests and exam supplements to the ETC in Room 508. Testing materials can also be uploaded to your RegisterBlast professor submission portal or emailed to ruc-etc@radford.edu for the testing center to print off for you.
    • Please indicate on your proctor request form how paper tests and exam supplements need to be returned.
    • The ETC will store any exams and materials in a secured locked cabinet that have been dropped off or need to be picked up by the instructor.
