The Virginia Talent and Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP) works collaboratively with institutions, students, and employers to increase connectivity through the development of readiness resources and innovative engagement solutions to foster internship opportunities for Virginia students.

A top concern of Virginia employers is access to an adaptive, well-trained workforce. Additionally, the benefits of internships and other work-based learning experiences on workplace readiness and career development cannot be overstated. It is important for employers to offer these opportunities to build their talent pipelines and provide an educational pathway to a career.

Courses for Employers: How to Develop and Internship Program

Radford University Career and Talent Development cordially invites employment recruiters to partner with us to provide career, internship, and other experiential opportunities for Radford University students and alumni.

EMPLOYER EXPECTATIONS

Employment recruiters who wish to make use of the assistance, services and/or facilities must comply with Radford University Code of Ethics, Nondiscrimination Policies, Radford University Job & Internship Posting Standards and adhere to employment laws and principles of professional practice, as outlined by the federal government and The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Professional Practice.

Students using Career and Talent Development services are advised of their rights under federal law, and of the method for filing a complaint with the appropriate agency. Each interviewer should be familiar with the Radford University Career and Talent Development recruiting guidelines as well as the equal employment provisions of federal law.

RADFORD UNIVERSITY CAREER AND TALENT DEVELOPMENT: JOB & INTERNSHIP POSTING STANDARDS

Organizations wishing to recruit students and alumni of Radford University using Handshake or other electronic or print-media posting can do so free of charge. All submissions to Radford University Career and Talent Development services and community engagement job and internship databases are reviewed and approved/rejected based upon the information contained in the postings.

Postings must adhere to the following criteria:

• All jobs and internships posted should be relevant for candidates pursuing or already possessing a university degree.
• All recruiters must follow the NACE Principles for Professional Practice for Employment Professionals and for Third-Party Recruiters. Third-Party Recruiters that charge fees to students will not be permitted access to career services.

Should you have any questions or complaints, please contact us. Any complaint that a recruiting employer has failed to conform to this policy with regard to hiring will be investigated to determine whether such practices have indeed occurred.

Radford University established a regional employer advisory board that includes existing state and regional programs and partnerships connected to economic growth, talent acquisition and workforce development.  With a focus on high-demand career fields including healthcare, manufacturing, AI, cybersecurity, biotechnology, education and travel/tourism, the board will help us implement a multipronged approach to generate new internships and work-based learning opportunities, build employer capacity, and strengthen the pathway to employment in the Commonwealth after graduation.

This resource has been developed for end users, including employers and faculty who are interested in developing a new internship program or modifying existing internship experiences for students.  The Employer & Faculty Guide to Internships includes information on writing job descriptions, recruiting interns, onboarding, training, mentoring. The guide posts inks to the National Association of Colleges and Employers and offers managers a list of 15 Best Practices including information about establishing learning objectives, compensation, logistics, screening applicants and much more.   In addition, the SCHEV Virginia Talent Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP) created a free training course for employers involving detailed strategies for organizations that are beginning new internship programs.
