Transfer Credit Resources

Our Transfer Equivalency Self Service Tool allows you to enter your coursework from other institutions and determine how your courses will most likely apply to your intended major at Radford University. You can input any courses you have already completed and view an unofficial degree audit based on how your credits transfer.

Create an account in the system in order for your information to be saved and record your password (we cannot reset it). If you do not create an account within the tool, download a PDF of your audit as it will not be saved in the system.

Things to know about the Transfer Equivalency Self Service Tool:

  • Updates to transfer credit can occur
  • If you do not see your course listed, contact the Office of Admissions for information on requesting information on course equivalency at admissions@radford.edu
  • If your course shows an elective credit as the transferrable course, you can work with an advisor (after enrollment) to determine if the course can be re-reviewed for specific credit
  • If you complete a transferrable associates degree at a Virginia Community College, your general education requirements will be waived
  • Prior to official transcripts being received and official credit evaluation completed, any evaluation of transfer credits is unofficial.

Each year, approximately 75% of transfer students entered Radford from a Virginia Community College campus. Transfer Virginia provides transparent, accessible, consistent, and current information to students throughout the college selection, enrollment, and transfer process.

You can research, plan, and organize your college and transfer journey using the information and resources available within this portal from Virginia's participating institutions, including Radford University.

Radford University will consider for transfer credit only those credits earned from a regionally accredited school, as well as military service at levels consistent with the American Council on Education (ACE) Guide to the Evaluation of Education Experiences in the Armed Services.
Any Veteran or Active Military student who would like to have their completed military service and training evaluated for possible transfer credit must:

Connect with a transfer counselor to determine how your military credits will transfer.

Submit the JST using the online delivery method through the JST portal.  Once their JST is received an unofficial estimate of possible credit hours will be determined.  An official evaluation will be conducted after a student has been admitted.

All matching recommendations will earn only non-specific elective credits.  After matriculation, students may appeal any elective credits received through the JST Evaluation Appeal process.

Dual Enrollment Credit

Students may receive credit for college courses taken to meet high school requirements. These credits may be applied toward a Radford University degree program but the dually enrolled credits are not evaluated automatically for transfer credit based upon high school transcripts. An official college transcript must be provided in order for credit to be awarded. Credits granted for dual-enrollments are considered the same as any college transfer credits.  Please view the section for Transfer Students in our course catalog for additional information regarding transfer credits.

Advanced Placement (AP) and College Level Exam Program (CLEP)

Radford uses the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) subject exams and College Board Advanced Placement Tests (AP) to award graduation credits. Advanced Placement and CLEP scores are evaluated for transfer credits in the same manner as for college transfer credits.  You can find additional AP and CLEP credit information, including course equivalencies in our course catalog

International Baccalaureate (IB) Credit

Individual IB courses are evaluated for transfer credits in the same manner as college transfer credits. Students who complete the IB Diploma have the opportunity to earn up to 30 semester credits. Please view our course catalog for additional IB credit information, including course equivalencies.

There is no limit to the number of hours a student may transfer. However, some important information to note:

  • 30 credit hours must be taken at Radford University in order to be granted a degree.
  • Half of the required major (and minor) courses must be taken at Radford University.
  • All students must be enrolled at Radford during the last semester before graduation.
  • 30 of the last 39 credit hours must be completed at Radford University.
  • A minimum "C" cumulative grade point average (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) on all coursework attempted is required for consideration.

While unofficial transcripts may be used for an admissions decision, evaluation of transcripts for credit can only be done once official transcript copies have been received. An official credit evaluation will show courses and credits that are accepted and fulfill Radford University requirements.

Credits are usually accepted from accredited institutions, provided that they carry a grade of "C" or better.

Students who have earned an associate's in arts, associate's in sciences and the associate's in arts and sciences degrees from a Virginia community college will be considered to have satisfied Radford's Core Curriculum requirements.

It is highly recommended that before making the decision to switch to the VCCS P+ option, VCCS students consult with their advisors.

Radford University will accept the grade of P+ in transfer credit from VCCS for classes taken in Spring 2020 only. Radford University will not accept the grade of P- as transfer credit. VCCS students are advised to either keep the traditional A-F grading protocol or select the P+ option to ensure transfer of credit.

Opting for the proposed P+ option may prevent a student from improving their GPA to what may be needed to gain admission into the desired major, or continue in the same major or even graduate from a particular major. Students who have this concern should first contact their respective advisor for guidance.

Having a P+ grade may reflect negatively on students who are planning to apply to a graduate program since some graduate programs may not accept such a grade. Once again, students who have this concern should first contact their respective advisor for guidance.

Undergraduate students who are in the following majors leading to licensure, certification, or other credentialing must keep in mind that switching to the P+ option may prevent the course from being counted towards entry into the major, continuation within the major, or successful graduation. Therefore, students in these majors must consult with their respective advisor before choosing the P+ grade options for any class. Specifically, these majors are as follows:

  • Allied Health Science
  • Athletic Training
  • Communication Sciences and Disorders
  • Emergency Services
  • Nursing
  • Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Recreation Therapy
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Social Work
  • Teacher Education Programs
