THEA 498: Independent Study
Prerequisites: THEA 201
Credit Hours: (1-6)
The course will provide an opportunity for theatre majors, minors, and undergraduates of all disciplines to explore independently specific problems or areas of interest in theatre.
Detailed Description of Course
The purpose of the course is to expose the student to an in depth study in an area
of theatre not covered by existing theatre courses.
1. Independent research in specific topic.
2. Discussion with the faculty advisor at regular meetings concerning problems and
information generated through the research data collected.
3. Realization of the concrete objectives established in the original proposal.
4. Post evaluation with the faculty supervisor regarding the success of the proposed
objectives.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
An informal approach in which the discovery of the principles used in specific areas of theatre will be emphasized.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
• Theatre students will produce for the theatre a specific proposal for the completion
of a theatre project.
• Undergraduate students will fashion a personalized in-depth study of a specific
theatre craft or skill.
At the conclusion of the course, students will have experienced a more thorough exploration
of the theatre craft or skill.
Assessment Measures
Graded assignments may include a final examination, the assignment and presentation of projects, class preparation, and participation.
