THEA 430: Theatre Design IV

Prerequisites: THEA 334

Credit Hours: (3) Two hours lecture; two hours laboratory

Advanced study of design for scenery, lighting and costuming. Students may, but are not required to, limit their focus to one area of design.

 

Detailed Description of Content of Course

The purpose of the course is to allow students to develop a focused approach to their selected areas of study. Students will continue work with rendering mediums and computer generated drafting. Students will generate a complete portfolio.

1. Students will generate renderings where appropriate to their selected areas.

2. Students will generate CAD drafting plates as needed for projects.

3. Students will generate sketching/drawing appropriate to their selected areas.

4. Student will produce 4 designs within their selected areas.

5. Students will generate a finished research bible for each project.

6. When the situation allows, students will be able to work with a realized design.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

An informal approach to the discovery of the principles used in the student’s selected area/s of study.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

1. Students will generate appropriate CAD drafting plates.

2. Students will generate renderings using appropriate mediums for their areas.

3. Students will produce 4 designs within their selected areas.

4. Students will submit a research bible for each design project.

5. Students will write concept statements and justifications.

6. Students will present a completed portfolio.

 

Assessment Measures

Graded assignments will include but are not limited to the completion and presentation of a theatrical design in each of the areas. Students will present a completed portfolio. Students will also present a research bible and written concept papers for each design.
