V. Course Description:
Survey of recreation activities through the fun of participation and practice of acceptable leadership techniques in play situations. Effects of outside dynamic forces on various recreation activities.
Note(s): General Education and Cultural or Behavioral Analysis designated course.
VI. Detailed Description of Content of the Course:
This course covers topics that are important in the major areas of individual leadership of activities and small group dynamics. Some of the specific topics discussed include the physical, social, cognitive, emotional, and administrative aspects of activity leadership. Other topics are the theories of play, communication skills, planning lengthy activity presentations, small group interaction, and small group dynamics.
VI. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course:
The course will address the theoretical and technical aspects of individual and small group activity leadership. Students will be tested upon conclusion of this material. The class will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge by presenting activities both individually and with a small group. These activities will be presented to their peers for individuals who are not enrolled in the class.
The students will be conducting an activity presentation of approximately two to three hours for an outside clientele. This presentation will be a collective effort of the class. This experience will enhance the knowledge and skills gained through the class.

Assessment of the student's success in this course is based on the grades for five unannounced take home quizzes, two tests, individual presentations, written analyses of presentations, group presentation, and attendance/participation in class discussions and activities.
