PSYC 771: Group Dynamics in Processing and Counseling
Prerequisite: PSY 641 and permission from instructor
Credit Hours: (3)
Course will consider theories and techniques of group counseling, including focus on content, process and leadership issues. Groups with special populations will also be considered. The course will also include an experiential component in which the student will be required to participate in a group.
Detailed Description of Content of Course
Student will be involved in a small (7-9 person) group experience which will focus on interpersonal communication. Also, students in course will gain understanding of how they are perceived when functioning in the group and how their perceptions of others coincide with the group consensus.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
The course is conducted in an open discussion format with focus on group process issues.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
The student should become aware of how groups function and the accuracy of their interpersonal and intrapersonal perceptions.
Assessment Measures
The student is expected to participate in each meeting of the class. Pass/Fail
