Music Therapy Internship

Prerequisite: Completion of all program requirements for MS or Certificate in Music Therapy.

Credit Hours: 1-12

Brief Description of Course: 6-month internship at an AMTA approved facility. Not required of the student who enters the graduate program with the UG degree already in music therapy.

Detailed Description of Course

Designing, implementing, and evaluating various music therapy approaches in a student chosen clinical internship site. Students will receive feedback/evaluation from a board-certified music therapist for clinical sessions they facilitate.

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Field experiences, case studies, in-service, student presentations, and student development of materials.

Goals and Objectives of this Course

Students are prepared to take the board certification exam and practice as a professional music therapist.

Students demonstrate strong competencies in musicianship as well as clinical skills as articulated by the American Music Therapy Association.

Assessment Measures

Assessment tools used in each clinical site by an onsite clinical supervisor (e.g., Midterm/Final evaluation).

Monthly report to Program Director about student learning and self-care practice.
