MUSC531. Wind Ensemble
Three hours rehearsal (1).
Emphasis on study and performance of serious wind ensemble literature. Concerts presented each year on campus and on tour. Membership by audition only. May be taken again for credit.
Detailed Description of Content of Course
Membership in the Wind Ensemble is held by the finest woodwind, brass and percussion students in the Department of Music. Highest quality original wind band/ensemble literature is emphasized.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
1. Seating Placement Auditions
2. Rehearsal preparation of works to be performed. Preparation includes listening
to recordings when appropriate and gaining some added insight about the composer and
music through lecture and/or discussion. Guest conductors bring fresh ideas to the
players.
3. Performance (typically 2 or 3 per semester)
Goals and Objectives of the Course
At the conclusion of the course, the student will have rehearsed and performed the highest quality Wind Ensemble literature. Performance at a more advanced level of musical and technical ability is expected of students registered for graduate credit.
Assessment Measures
Grades are based upon individual part preparation, performance execution and strict adherence to a clearly stated attendance policy.
