MUSC 488H. Final Honors Project
Credit Hours (3).

Prerequisite: Enrollment in the Honors Program, completion of all other Honors Program requirements, a minimum 3.5 GPA in all courses and in music.

To earn a bachelor's degree with honors in music, a student must conduct research and write a thesis, prepare a project or take a comprehensive examination. In order to receive honors credit, a student must earn a grade of "A" or "B" for the final project. Course may not be repeated.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The content of the course will vary with each student. The student will write either a researched critical essay or a comparable creative manuscript or other original writing project or take a comprehensive examination. All final projects must be approved by the department and the Honors Council.

The student's final project supervisor will ask two other faculty members, one of whom will be from the Music department, to serve as readers. The student's work will be evaluated by this committee.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

The goals of this course is to provide students in the Honors program majoring in Music with the opportunity to synthesize their four year career in Music. The final project should demonstrate the ability to analyze and synthesize, to write a sustained piece of original work or research, and to communicate ideas effectively.

 

Assessment Measures

The supervisor of the final project and the final project committee will be responsible for evaluating the success of the project.
