MUSC 385: Ethics in Music Therapy
Prerequisites: Music therapy major or permission of instructor.
Credit Hours: (3)
This lecture-based course will focus on ethical principles and considerations necessary within music therapy practice. Students will learn Dileo's 12 steps of ethical decision making, the intricacies of ethical behavior and how that behavior is outlined by the American Music Therapy Association and the Certification-Board for Music Therapists. Students will apply ethical standards to clinical practice, research writing, private practice ownership, and supervision roles within the music therapy discipline, with an intention to address real-world ethical issues that arise in all aspects of professional work.

Student Learning Outcomes
Having successfully completed this course, the student will be able to competently navigate practicum experiences with a high level of professionalism and ethical behavior. Additionally, this course will prepare students to retain integrity and core values within music therapy internship and future professional roles as a music therapist.
Assessment Measures
Student progress will be assessed through a combination of regular attendance/participation, written/video reflections on course content, and student presentations.
