DSNI 320: Computer Aided Design I
Prerequisite: DSN173, DSN223, DSNI205; 2.5 in-major GPA; passing Portfolio Review Assessment; or permission of instructor

An introduction to concepts and techniques of two-dimensional and three-dimensional computer-aided design applications for interior spaces.
Detailed Description of Content of Course
This course teaches students to utilize CAD hardware and software for creating two-dimensional and three-dimensional interior design representations. The following major topics are included: CAD hardware and peripheral equipment; computer-aided design software for interior design applications; and drawing outputs, including printing, plotting and projecting.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
Computer-aided application for interior design are introduced and reinforced in the computer classroom environment. These sessions develop CAD communication skills through exercises and project assignments, focusing on two-dimensional graphics. Output includes printed/plotted drawings and drawings in digital presentation format.

1) Competency in operating the CAD classroom network and components, including the
computer, printer, plotter, scanner and projection device.
2) Competency in operating the computer-aided design software, focusing on two-dimensional
graphics.
3) Competency in creating drawing layouts according to basic design principles and
standard drafting conventions.
4) Competency in producing accurately-scaled prints/plots.
5) A variety of communication techniques and technologies appropriate to a range of
purposes and audiences. (6a)
6) Competent presentation drawings across a range of appropriate media. (6d)
7) Graphic representation and application of luminaires and light sources. (12b)
Assessment Measures
Assessment measures include quizzes, exercises and tutorials, and projects.
