Senior Seminar in Interdisciplinary Studies

Prerequisite: IDST 250, IDSL major, senior standing or permission of IDSL program director

Provides the opportunity for students to synthesize, integrate and articulate what they have learned in the IDSL major and how being an IDLS major has prepared them to transition from college life.  Students will learn how to market their knowledge and skills, as they explore post-graduate opportunities.

2. Detailed Description of Course

Students will reflect upon, collect and synthesize evidence, illustrate, and articulate what they have learned in the IDSL major. Students will explore post-graduate opportunities, learn how to market their knowledge and skills, and be able to articulate how being an IDLS major has prepared them to transition from college life. The primary product of the class is an e-portfolio that includes reflections and artifacts such as the entrance essay, products from major coursework, and CV or resume. This course may be offered in a traditional face-to-face, hybrid, or online format.

3. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Through seminar-style classes, readings, assignments, and the development and presentation of an e-portfolio, students will reflect upon, collect and synthesize evidence, illustrate, and articulate what they have learned in the IDSL major and how being an IDLS major has prepared them to transition from college life. This course may be offered in a traditional face-to-face, hybrid, or online format.

4. Goals and Objectives of the Course

Upon successful completion of the Senior Seminar in Interdisciplinary Studies, students will be able to:
    1) Articulate their knowledge and skills
    2) Collect and synthesize reflections and artifacts for an e-portfolio
    3) Explore post-graduate opportunities
    4) Learn how to market their knowledge and skills
    5) Create an e-portfolio
    6) Present the e-portfolio

5. Assessment Measures

Students will be assessed by the instructor based on measures that could include seminar participation, completion of academic assignments, and completion and oral presentation of the e-portfolio.
