V. Course Description: Marketing and strategic planning in healthcare is the focus of this course. The need for an organized approach that ties strategy to quantifiable objectives and a defined market position is examined. The importance of aligning market issues and needs to the achievement of the strategic plan is addressed.

 

Content

Module 1: Introduction

Objective: Strategy and Strategic Management

Objective: Stakeholders, values, mission and vision

Case Study 2: Power of a Healthcare Insurance Supplier

Assignment: SWOT Analysis

Module 5: Plans for Achieving Mission and Vision

Objective: Development and execution of a strategic plan, business plans and strategic management

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Course is conducted synchronously and offered in multiple formats. D2L weekly module-based assignments of readings, lectures, guest speakers, discussions, exams, case studies, presentations, group activities, and reflective learning.  

 

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Evaluate the relationship between strategic planning, strategic management, and strategic marketing
  2. Compare internal and external assessments commonly used in strategic planning
  3. Analyze forecasting trends in organizational performance using decision support systems
  4. Appraise advanced marketing strategy frameworks that align with organizational goals and market dynamics.
  5. Develop a comprehensive market analysis that supports defined strategic objectives and informs evidence-based decision-making.

 

Assessment Measures

Students will be graded based on the assignments of readings, lectures, guest speakers, discussions, exams, case studies, presentations, group activities, video recordings, Zoom sessions, and reflective learning of the course.
