Instructional Method: Three hours lecture.

Prerequisites: Completion of a minimum of 24 credits in the program, HSCI 715, HSCI 716, HSCI 870, HSCI 871

This course is the culmination of student work initiated in HSCI 870 and HSCI 871 and is the final course in the three-part capstone series. Building on the foundation established in Capstone I & II, this course will focus on guiding students in data analysis and dissemination of an applied scholarly capstone project. 

Note(s): This is a pass/fail course.

 

Content

In this course, students will focus on data analysis and written and oral dissemination of their project through appropriate channels. Topics to be covered include: 

  • Analyzing data using appropriate methods and interpreting project findings. 
  • Constructing manuscript discussion and conclusion sections. 
  • Formatting and finalizing manuscripts according to selected journal guidelines. 
  • Constructing effective dissemination plans that utilize effective strategies and target relevant stakeholders.
  • Peer-reviewed oral presentations of capstone project through appropriate channels.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Instructional strategies in this course will include developing written materials related to capstone project, oral and written communication activities, self-paced learning through online modules, and guest speakers.

Having successfully completed this course, students will be able to:

  1. Implement best practices for collecting, managing, and organizing qualitative and quantitative data to maintain accuracy, reliability, and research integrity.
  2. Submit an IRB submission and apply ethical research principles, ensuring compliance with institutional and professional standards for human subjects research.
  3. Utilize SPSS to perform descriptive and inferential statistical analyses of project data. 
  4. Analyze, interpret, and present project data, identifying patterns, trends, and potential limitations in alignment with their research questions.
  5. Effectively disseminate their capstone project through professional oral and poster presentations, demonstrating clarity, scholarly communication, and the ability to engage academic and professional audiences.

 

Assessment Measures

Assessment strategies in this course will include formative, summative, reflective, peer-review, faculty feedback, and real-world assessment methods. 

 

Other Course Information

During this course, capstone students will be working closely with their capstone committee (i.e. faculty advisor and faculty mentor) on dissemination of their project.
