HSCI 870 - Capstone Project

Instructional Method: Three hours lecture.

Prerequisites: Completion of a minimum of 24 credits in the program.

Pre- or Corequisites: HSCI 715 and HSCI 716. 

Note(s): This is a pass/fail course.

Catalog Description

Students develop, implement, and defend a scholarly doctoral capstone project. This course is repeatable and a minimum of six capstone credits is required.

 

Content

The capstone courses include the capstone proposal, proposal defense, IRB application (if needed), final defense and final product for their project. 

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Students have a committee consisting of a chair and two additional faculty members. The committee is responsible for reviewing and providing feedback on each part of the capstone. 

 

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Critically appraise literature, principles, and theoretical approaches relevant to a topic of interest.
  • Design and implement a scholarly project using appropriate methodologies.
  • Analyze the results of a scholarly project.
  • Discuss implications of a scholarly project.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate professionally through presentations and in writing.

 

Assessment Measures

Capstone projects are assessed by committee members who provide written and verbal feedback.
