GEOS 488. Final Honors Project (3)
Prerequisites: Enrollment in Honors program; completion of all other Honors program requirements; minimum 3.5 GPA in all courses and in Geography.
To earn a bachelor's degree with honors in Geography, a student may conduct research and write a thesis or prepare for and take a comprehensive examination. In order to receive honor's credit, a student must earn a grade of "A" or "B" for final project.
Course may not be repeated.
Detailed Description of Content of Course
The content of the course will vary with each student. The student will write either a researched critical essay or a comparable creative manuscript or other original research project or take a comprehensive examination. All final projects must be approved by the department and the Honors Council.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
The student's final project supervisor will ask two other faculty members, one of whom will be from the Geography department, to serve as readers. The student's work will be evaluated by this committee.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
The goal of this course is to provide students in the Honors program majoring in Geography with the opportunity to synthesize their four year career in Geography. The final project should demonstrate the ability to analyze and synthesize, to write a sustained piece of original work or research, and to communicate ideas effectively.
Assessment Measures
The supervisor of the final project and the final project committee will be responsible for evaluating the success of the project.
