ESHE 462: Senior Capstone Experience
Prerequisite: Completion of 86 credit hours and ESHE 395
Credit Hours: (1) Two hours lab
This seminar course will provide students with a culminating research, writing, and
presentation experience. Students will complete a written synthesis of research on
a topic of their interest, and will create and present their synthesis to students
and faculty.
Note(s): Pass/Fail.
Detailed Description of Content of Course
Students and instructor will review the research and writing skills learned in the stepped-process (learning over time) designed by the Exercise, Sport, and Health Education Department. An overview of research design will be presented. Students will be required to select an approved research topic, locate quality research articles on their topic, and synthesize the information from the articles in an original paper. Students will present their completed paper to ESHE faculty members and students.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
Students shall gain knowledge of, and experience in, research and writing through the use of lecture, guest speakers, written papers, and presentations.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
By the end of the course, students shall:
-Locate quality research articles in their field of study.
-Cite sources appropriately in APA format.
-Critically analyze the content of various research article.
-Identify the audience and purpose of a research articles.
-Distinguish between a refereed and non-refereed source.
-Compose an original paper on a research topic of their choice.
-Utilize their knowledge of statistics to understand the results of a study.
-Evaluate the quality of a research articles.
-Compose a formal presentation of their research project.
-Present their synthesis to a group of their peers and to ESHE faculty.
Assessment Measures
Students learning shall be assessed through a written paper and oral presentation.
