ESHE 397: Program Development for Sport / Performance
Prerequisites: ESHE 305
Credit hours (3)
Student will develop the capacity to plan exercise programs to increase the athletic
performance of their clients. Training programs will be based in a sound understanding
of exercise science and the principles of periodization. Developing annualized training
programs will be a key emphasis in the course.
Detailed Description of Content of Course
This course is designed to provide students with the ability to plan annualized exercise
program for performance based on an understanding of exercise science and the principles
of periodization,
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
The course will be conducted in a lecture, lab and problem solving format. Students
will be instructed as to the essential components of program development. Students
will then formulate programs for athletes with a variety of sport specific requirements.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
At the completion of this course the students will be able to:
1) Describe training models and define the appropriate settings for their use.
2) Describe training cycles and define time periods that are appropriate for each
cycle.
3) Describe neuromuscular, metabolic and cardivascular adaptations in the body
and how training will bring forth those adaptations.
4) Create exercise programs for physical, technical tactical psychological aspects
of training.
5) Describe strategies to improve motivation for exercise.
6) Describe the effects and appropriate uses of recovery modalities.
7) Program exercise to improve aspects of sport performance.
8) Develop annual training plans for individuals and sport teams.
Assessment Measures
Assessments include written / oral exams, presentations, and electronic portfolio
assignments.
