EDUC 562 : Classroom and Behavior Management

Catalog Description
Students enrolled in the classroom management course will develop an understanding of research-based classroom and behavior management techniques, practices that build classroom community, positive behavior supports, and individual interventions. Students will learn diverse and age-appropriate approaches to classroom management based upon research and best practice.
Detailed Description of Content of the Course:
Students enrolled in the classroom management course will develop an understanding of research-based classroom and behavior management techniques, classroom community building, positive behavior supports, and individual interventions. These include techniques that promote emotional well-being and teach and maintain behavioral conduct and skills consistent with norms, standards, and rules of the educational environment. Students will learn diverse and age-appropriate approaches to classroom management based upon culturally responsive behavioral, cognitive, affective, social, and ecological theory and evidence-based practice.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course:
This course is conducted with emphasis on practical application of the subject matter through student participation and discussion, individual and group projects and presentations, classroom demonstration, textbook and journal article reading, videos and lectures.
