COBE 150: Speakers Series
Prerequisites: None
Credit Hours: (1-3)
Students are exposed to a variety of speakers at campus and off campus events. Topics
cover a wide variety of issues pertaining to business practices and problem solving
in a business/ organizational environment.
Detailed Description of Course
Each student will attend a set number of public speaking events on and/or off campus.
For each event attended the student will submit a 2 page review of the talk, including
a summary, a critique of the presentation and questions the student might pose to
the speaker. Following conclusion of attendance, a final report will reflect on the
contribution of the series to the student’s learning with respect to business practices
and problem solving.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
COBE 150 involves student attendance at public speaking events related to business
but outside of the classroom.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
Having successfully completed this course, students will be able to:
• Summarize a public speech
• Contrast speaking styles and content
• Illustrate examples of how businesses have identified and dealt with problems.
Assessment Measures
Students will be evaluated on their performance on written reviews of each event and
a final reflective paper.
