COMS 488H: Final Honors Project
Prerequisites: COMS 130, COMS 230, Enrollment in the Honors Program, completion of all other Honors Program requirements, a minimum GPA of 3.5 in all courses and in School of Communication

Projects and topics to be determined by students, faculty members with whom students work, and the department. In order to receive honors credit, students must earn a grade of "A" or "B" for final projects. Course may not be repeated.
Detailed Description of Content of Course
Approved independent, scholarly investigation of subjects or problems by qualified students in the Media Studies major. The student will initiate a proposal for the design and content of the study, to be approved by the instructor and the department curriculum committee. Each project will involve significant research and writing, proportional to the credit to be earned.
Detailed Description of the Conduct of Course
Students must apply for the Final Honors Project, and it must be approved prior to the deadline for enrolling in the course. The study should produce tangible results of independent, scholarly investigation, with quality and quantity proportional to the amount of credit to be earned. Periodic assessment of the student's progress should be scheduled by the instructor. A schedule of regular meetings will be set up to facilitate this.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
The course will enable a qualified student to explore a subject, issue or problem in a manner not duplicating the content and design of an existing course. The design of the study will emphasize and reward original scholarship.
Assessment Measures
To be determined by student and instructor in consultation and approved by the Department Curriculum Committee.
