CHEM 480. Selected Topics in Chemistry
One to three hours lecture (1-3).
Prerequisite: CHEM 102 and five semester hours of addition chemistry courses. Additional prerequisites may be required depending on the course topic.
The course is designed for science majors in their junior or senior year who wish to pursue advanced chemical subjects or to study recent advances in chemistry. The specific topic will be selected each time the course is taught. A student may take this course twice if the topic is different.
Detailed Description of Content of the Course
This course is designed for science majors in their junior or senior year who wish to pursue advanced chemical subjects or to study recent advances in chemistry. The specific topic will be selected each time the course is taught. Subjects that might be covered are:
1. Group Theory
2. The electronic of instrumentation
3. Sources of Energy
4. Descriptive Chemistry
5. The Manufacturing of Chemicals
Detailed Description of Conduct of the Course
CHEM 480 will use a lecture or group discussion format. Student may be assigned to do a paper(s) on a selected topic(s).
Goals and Objectives of the Course
1. Students will be introduced to chemical subjects not included in their core classes.
2. Students will be better prepared for graduate school.
3. Students will have to pass a test on the material in section B.
Assessment Measures
Assessment of the students' success in the class will be partially based on several tests. The rest of the grade will be derived from class participation and a research paper.
