V. Course Description:
Green Chemistry is a study of the principles, concepts, and applications of sustainable chemistry. This course will explore the historical context of chemical industry and use literature to understand the current state of green chemistry research. Students will be actively engaged in writing, presenting, and project-based learning.

VI. Detailed Description of Content of the Course:
Green Chemistry is a study of the principles, concepts, and applications of sustainable chemistry. Historical context will provide an understanding of the reason why green chemistry is so important. The 12 principles of green chemistry and their application in chemical industry will be explored through readings, discussions, case-studies and projects. Particular attention will be given to industrial processes, green metrics, catalysis, solvents, and renewable resources.
VI. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course:
This upper level chemistry elective will require reading and analysis of green chemistry texts and primary literature. Students will be expected to participate in classroom discussions. Students will engage in several projects during the semester as they learn green chemistry concepts and explore applications of green chemistry. Assessments may be in the form of class participation, answering reading questions, creating posters, writing assignments, case studies and projects, and others.
