ART 605: Graduate Concept Lab
Credit Hours: (3) Two hour seminar and three hours studio
Note(s): May be taken again for credit.
Students will explore creative and challenging themes, topics, and concepts. Students will be challenged to incorporate insights from readings and discussions into their studio practice. This course is theme-driven and involves project-based learning.
Detailed Description of Content of Course
Instructional strategies include: reading responses; group discussions; prompt-based learning; creative assignments; and critiques.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
At the conclusion of the course, students will be able to pursue scholarly or creative inquiry more systematically and independently. They will develop the tools and techniques demonstrating several strategies and utilizing a variety of appropriate resources.
The graduate students are encouraged to pursue advanced research in art media and techniques to refine further his/her professional competence. This will serve to enhance his/her capability as both an artist and as a teacher.
Assessment Measures
Weekly critiques of the student's work are conducted by the instructor and members of the class. Each student demonstrates a selected project related to his/her research area. A short paper describing the procedures used in the student research project will be completed. This paper should be suitable for publishing. The students will utilize the guidelines of the current American Psychological Association Publisher's Manual.
