ART 493: Museum Internship
Prerequisite: ARTH 401.
Integrates academic knowledge with hands-on field experience in an off-campus museum
facility and puts into practice knowledge and theories essential for competency in
museum work.
Note(s): May be repeated for credit.
Detailed Description of Content of Course
The student will secure an internship and agreement with staff supervisor regarding student's responsibilities and length of employ. Student is required to work a minimum of 200 hours (for 3 credits) at a museum facility.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
Through academic affiliation, faculty member will oversee internship and review all progress reports and intern evaluations.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
Museum Internship will extend the theories and practices learned in Museum Studies (ART 491). Students will experience work in a museum career firsthand. An internship will also enhance students’ professionalism.
Assessment Measures
Museum Internship will be a pass-fail course. Student will be evaluated by two criteria (1) that the student has met the basic obligation, i.e., has worked 200 hours with supervision, (2) that the student's work's is satisfactory. Assessment is structured according to Radford University's Student Teaching Handbook.
Other Course Information
Student will be required to write a final paper detailing activities and outcomes of fieldwork.
