Information Science and Systems

With the increase in usage of technology used to develop products, provide services and communicate with clients, business leaders who understand technical aspects have an advantage. With the Information Science program, you’ll complete a combination of Computer Science classes and Business classes, a true hybrid of business and technology.

Why study Information Science and Systems at Radford?

The Information Systems program prepares students for careers in industry, government or graduate study. The program is a STEM program with a technical core including database, networks, programming, cybersecurity and a business core including accounting, management, economics, finance and marketing. Students in ISAS program will also take higher level courses specializing in cybersecurity management and decision analytics. This combination of classes prepares students for managing and securing an organization’s technology assets to effectively and effectively meet the organization’s needs.

Students will have the opportunities to earn industry relevant certifications while at Radford University. The fundamental topics required for the Security+ and Networks+ exams are covered in the program and the exams can be taken in the Radford University Hub which is adjacent to the university.  All IS students will take the Excel and Advanced Excel certification exams in required classes. The program also covers many of the topics required for the CISSP exam which provides a foundation for preparing for this high demand certification. These opportunities provide students with the opportunity to achieve industry relevant certifications based on classes they have taken while in Radford. 

Additionally, Radford University is a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense as designated by the NSA and DHS. This university designation meets the DoD 8140/8570 requirements for an Intermediate level employee. This designation can be important for students interested in working for the federal government or a government contractor.
