New Freshmen: You're In!

A clear path to start your degree

New freshman applicants with a 3.0 GPA or higher are eligible for Direct Admission with Flexible Progression to Radford University's Prelicensure nursing program.

Direct admit nursing students are not required to participate in the competitive application for upper division Nursing courses as long as progression requirements and milestones are met.

Direct Admission Progression Requirements

To stay in the BSN as a direct admit student, you must:

  1. Maintain a minimum cumulative college 3.25 GPA at Radford University. This cumulative GPA will be calculated after 2 consecutive semesters, and then each semester thereafter until progression to upper division Nursing courses. All college coursework from accredited institutions, Radford University or otherwise, will be included in your cumulative GPA.
  2. Earn an overall score of “proficient” on the ATI TEAS exam.
  3. Limit course repeats: Students may repeat or withdraw from no more than two nursing pre-requisite courses and only one science can be repeated.

Students who enter Radford under the Direct Admission program should plan to complete the Intent to Progress Form the semester before they intend to start upper division Nursing coursework. The Intent to Progress form is available Aug 5 - Oct 10 for students planning to start upper division courses in the spring and Jan 5 - March 6 for students planning to start upper-division nursing courses in the fall semester.

Transfer Students

Your nursing career starts here

Transfer students with a 3.0 cumulative college GPA or higher can be admitted as Pre-Nursing majors, where you'll receive personalized advising to help you transition seamlessly.

We'll evaluate your transfer credits, identify any remaining prerequisite courses and guide you through the application process for admission into our highly respected Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.

Transfer Student Pre-Nursing Application Info

As a Pre-Nursing student, you will be required to apply to the Prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing major upon completion of pre-requisite requirements, prior to starting upper division Nursing courses.

How to Apply

The competitive Prelicensure BSN application is separate from the university admissions application.

If you have completed the required pre-requisites prior to starting at Radford, you may complete the Prelicensure application prior to your enrollment. If not, you will work with your Academic Advisor and Nursing faculty to complete the pre-requisites then submit your Prelicensure application. 

  1. Complete the Prelicensure BSN Application (Competitive Admit). The Prelicensure BSN Application is available Aug 5 - Oct 10 for students planning to start upper division courses in the spring and Jan 5 - March 6 for students planning to start upper-division nursing courses in the fall semester. 
  2. Earn an overall score of “proficient” on the ATI TEAS exam.

Personalize Your Path

 BSN students may choose between our main campus in Radford, VA and the Roanoke Higher Education Center in Roanoke, VA. Both locations offer hands-on labs and a state-of-the-art simulation center, as well as clinical experiences with leading healthcare partners leading to a 100% graduate placement rate.

Main Campus 

A traditional pathway, with classes taught in fall and spring semesters, is available at main campus for both new freshman and transfer Nursing students.

Roanoke

Roanoke students may choose between a traditional pathway or an accelerated pathway, with classes taught year round. The accelerated pathway is available to all Roanoke students – and it is a fantastic option for second-degree students pursuing the BSN.

To participate in the  accelerated pathway, indicate your interest when you complete the Prelicensure BSN Application (Competitive Admit) or the Intent to Progress Form.

Interested in the Postlicensure RN-to-BSN Program?

Designed for working registered nurses, this fast track to the BSN is offered 100% online in seven-week sessions year-round. Applicants must either hold an associate degree or diploma in nursing as well as an active RN license.

Co-enrollment options are available for students enrolled in a Virginia Community College System AAS nursing degree program.
