I am Jaehwan Jeong, a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Management
at Radford University. I earned my Ph.D. in Management Science from the University
of Tennessee - Knoxville in May 2014, following an M.S. in Management Science with
a minor in Statistics from the same institution in August 2009. I received a B.S.
in Business Administration from Dongguk University in Seoul, South Korea. Before joining
Radford University as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2015, I served as a Visiting
Professor at York College of Pennsylvania for a year and a Lab Instructor at the University
of Tennessee - Knoxville. I also served as a Sergeant in the Republic of Korea Army
from 2002 to 2004.
My research focuses on the intersection of optimization, analytics, and machine learning.
I explore areas such as Quadratic Optimization, Inverse/Reverse Optimization, Stochastic
Optimization, Dimensionality Reduction, and their applications in fields like Portfolio
Selection, Index Tracking, and Network Modeling. My work has been published in leading
journals including Operations Research (OR), European Journal of Operational Research
(EJOR), Mathematical Programming (MP), The Journal of Portfolio Management (JPM),
and Journal of Risk and Financial Management (JRFM). I have also contributed as a
guest editor for a special issue on Portfolio Selection and Risk Analytics and presented
my findings at numerous national and international conferences.
In my teaching, I cover a range of topics including Business Analytics, Operations
Management, Soft Skills, Visual Analytics (Tableau), and Optimization. I have taught
courses at both the undergraduate and MBA levels, focusing on providing students with
practical skills and analytical thinking capabilities. Beyond the classroom, I am
actively involved in university service, contributing to various committees, including
the Faculty Senate, Scholarly Activities, Student Success Council, Assurance of Learning,
Curriculum Development, IT Advisory, and Faculty Search.
My scholarly efforts have been recognized through various honors and grants. These
include multiple Faculty Research Awards from the Davis College, a SEED Grant from
Radford University for research on Elastic-Nets, and funding such as the Truist Leadership
Grant and Learning Innovation for Fulfilling Teaching (LIFT). I have also received
fellowships like the RISE Faculty Institute and Elevate Research Faculty Fellow from
the DuPont fund and was awarded the Best Paper Award by the Multinational Finance
