Brock Cutler earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine's History
Department in 2011. His current research and writing investigates the relationship
between the physical environment and the geography of sovereignty in nineteenth-century
North Africa. Professor Cutler's areas of interest include environmental history,
the history of the modern state, and the modern Middle East and North Africa. At
Radford, he teaches courses in Middle Eastern history, global environmental history,
colonialism in the Middle East and North Africa, and world history.
