David Brock is the past Director of the Physical Activity and Wellness Research Laboratory,
the founder of the graduate program in Physical Activity and Wellness Science, a Gubernatorial
Appointee to Governor Peter Shumlin’s Council on Physical Activity and Sport, and
a former associate professor of Exercise and Movement Science at the University of
Vermont.
He held a visiting Professorship and Senior Scientist (CDC/NC) position in the Department
of Health and Wellness at the University of North Carolina, Asheville. David completed
a NIH/NHLBI postdoctoral fellowship in Cardiovascular Sciences and Vascular Biology,
with the past president of the American Heart Association at the University of Alabama,
Birmingham’s School of Medicine, where he participated in large-scale NIH-funded clinical
and observational research in the areas of cardiovascular and metabolic health.
David has contributed 100+ peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and presentations,
received federal, state, and non-profit funding for research, reviewed grants for
the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, received (co-recipient)
the Scientific Paper of the Year Award from the International Journal of Environmental
Research and Public Health as well as the Margaret Dullea Simko Award for Clinical
Excellence from the American Dietetic Association.
David has expertise in research methodology and interpretation, behavioral economics,
perceptual discord during endurance exercise, plant-based nutrition, and vascular
health. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia as a NIH/NCAAM Predoctoral
Fellow.
He is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, in which he served at Search and
Rescue Stations Oregon Inlet and Hatteras Inlet and received multiple awards for service,
conduct and bravery.
