Michele Ren (she/her) received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English
from Radford University; she received her PhD in American Studies from Washington
State University. She is originally from California, but now lives in Pulaski with
her son and his many cats. Dr. Ren teaches courses in American Literature, Composition,
Women's & Gender Studies, and Women's Literature.
Dr. Ren understands that for students to do well, they have to be well. Her commitment
to the well-being of her students means that she spends many semesters joining and/or
leading book groups focused on anti-racist practices. Safe Zone certified for over
ten years, Dr. Ren now leads trainings for the campus community. She has been awarded
the University’s Service Award (2021) and the RU College of Humanities & Behavioral
Sciences Distinguished Teaching Award (2023).
